This is my submission to the SoloDevelopment Game Jam #4. The theme was "two button controls." Please read the following to understand how to enjoy the game.

The game is inspired by space invaders and features a bold minamalistic art style as well as random infinite generation of obstacles, powerups, and enemies. Manage your position to not get trapped by the obstacles, or pick the path of desctruction and shoot everything in your path. Play for a score or max time.

Controls: 

  • Space to change directions
  • Aim with the mouse, use the left mouse button to shoot

People often miss:

There's a pause and replay button in the top left of the screen, you don't need to return to the menu every time you die. There's also a health bar and a score and time. My top score is 5407 at 5:02.

If you touch the border of the screen, you die. Some people die unexpectedly and don't understand why.

Touching an obstacle deals damage to you but also destroys the obstacle, except in the case of hearts which gives you 1 hitpoint back.

Your character moves in an arc, not a straight line.

You can destroy turret bullets if you shoot at them before they hit you.

Info:

  1. The squares are obstacles. They will deal damage to you if you touch them.
  2. The pentagons are turrets. They will shoot at you if you are within range and deal damage if you touch them. It's possible to dodge their bullets. In my experience they are not dangerous by themselves but in groups they will kill you easily.
  3. The hearts are powerups which give you health. They can be shot at or you can touch them.

Challenge Yourself:

My intention was for this game to be difficult, but it's extremely easy right now. If you want to challenge yourself here are some ideas I came up with in order from easiest to hardest:

  1. Get to 3000 points
  2. Survive for 5 minutes
  3. Play without breaking any blocks
  4. Play without getting hit by turrets
  5. Play without regenerating health
  6. Play without shooting
  7. Reach 500 score without shooting

Known Issues:

  • The sound effects are a little funky in the WebGL build.
  • Every so often you'll get hit but won't take damage.
  • Turrets can shoot you through blocks.
  • If you hit full screen while playing the screen bounds won't update until after you die. That means you can die from far away from the edge of the screen.
